Love Is In The Air

Today lunch was pretty nice. Mr. Wonderful was back, and we had leftover hutsput like I planned. Of course, until I got into the office, I forgot we had Valentine's Day plans to go out and eat pasta. I don't need the flowers (Brutus will just knock them over mutiple times throughout the day) or chocolate (not good with Weight Watchers) and after Santa, Hallmark sure doesn't need our money (save it to go visit Calem). But I thought dinner would be nice. We chose pasta because for our first Valentine's dinner, Dan made me pasta. I also said to eat out, because we would be without the distraction of computers, dog and cats. And no clean-up!

But, since I was up earlier than normal this morning, I threw a bunch of ingredients in the slow-cooker and voila, we will have dinner when we get home. I forgot it was pasta day. So, we decided to postpone Valentine's Day until the 18th of February. That is the day we got engaged. Dan told me one time he would have proposed to me on Valentine's Day, but we had a misunderstanding due to a friend saying she wanted to meet Dan, and then backing out at the last minute. I was to drive to San Luis Obispo to visit her, and originally she wanted me to bring Dan along. I finally ended up telling her that Dan was coming with me, because I already invited him, and he proposed to me on that trip. I was so glad he came with me also, because she ended up leaving me alone most of the time because she needed to set up for the Chinese New Years festival her college club was having. So, when he told me about proposing on Valentine's Day, I told him that was cheesy (cause so many couples propose or get married on Valentine's) and it worked out better this way. hehe.

So anyway, back to today. Dan and I were eating lunch. He has this coworker who, when he finds out we are eating lunch in the breakroom, will come over and monopolize our time. Today, we were eating and he comes in. Dan says, "Hi, Bill." Bill says, "Hi, Dan. Hi, Mrs. Dan." Dan tells him I have my own name, but I don't think Bill remembers it and Dan doesn't tell him what it is. I just keep my mouth shut, so I don't encourage him. So Dan and I are chatting, and Bill keeps doing this cough. *cough**cough, cough* while staring in our direction. To me, it was like he was trying to get our attention. Then he starts chatting away to Dan. "How is business in your department?" blah, blah, blah. He turns away for a moment, and Dan whispers, "Do you want to go elsewhere?" I reply, "Yes, please." He whispers, "To the car, maybe?" I nod my head, gather toss the trash, and quickly gather our things. We raced out of there.

Last year, when Dan was in the hospital, Bill of all people ended up sharing a hospital room with him for the weekend. I told Dan that Bill thinks they are best buddies now because of that time they had together. Dan rolls his eyes and says, "Oh, please! I hope not!" The fresh air was nice though, and it was good to get away from the eavesdroppers in his building.

I always think the radio is funny on Valentine's Day also. There is always one radio show that is Anti-Love. They also tend to play the "I could do better without you" type of songs all day long. When I was driving back, there is this song that came on called Because of You by Kelly Clarkson. It is really melodic. But the words! I was wondering what the story was behind the lyrics. It almost seems like a song someone who has been abused would sing. I would love to find a website that would explain things like that. Similar to the song My Immortal, which is also suppose to mean something, but when they overplayed it on the radio, and the DJ's asked, "Do you know what that song is about?" to the umpteeth caller, they never said what it was about. I know that My Immortal is popular at funerals though, and the lyrics to me sound like someone watching a loved one die.

So, I was contemplating life and the lyrics to Because of You, when a flower delivery guy asked me if I knew where some area of Indianapolis I never heard of before was. River Crossing. It sounded familiar. But I didn't want to steer him wrong either, since this is probably the busiest day of the year for flower people. All those love-struck, spoony individuals who send flowers to the special person in their lives in the hopes of making an impression, or at the least, getting lucky by the end of the night. (Spoony is my word for the day. I had to find a way to work it in.) But for Dan and me, it is just a day. Like every other day. Every day is Valentine's Day.

What is freferable?

I think you meant preferable, and I think we will both be losing on the 18th. Cause we both want to win.
